Processed or dried fruits, vegetables, and nuts require a kosher symbol. Sun Maid raisins are kosher. Bagged salads must have kosher symbol. CheeseThere are cheeses available which are kosher by traditional standards. Many soft cheeses such as cream cheese and mozzarella have a kosher symbol (OU-D is the most frequent). Miller’s, Golans, Haolam, Mehadrin, “The Good Life Cheese” (check with your rabbi as not everyone accepts the certification on this brand), and some Israeli cheeses are kosher (Tnuva). There are even some kosher French cheeses finding their way into the American Market (Ermitage, Royal). From the UK is the Royal George brand that is quite good. Cabot cheese occasionally does a special kosher run of their cheddar. Kosher grape juiceKosher grape juice is rarely found in the ordinary juice section of your supermarket. Try the kosher section. Kedem brand grape juice is always kosher. The color of the juice (Red, White, Golden, Blush) is not important. Kosher WineKosher wine is a bit hard to find. Although many stores now carry Manechevitz and Baron Herzog. Only serve Mevushal wine (says this somewhere on the label). You can find kosher wines online at Kosher Wines.com Kosher beveragesKosher beverages may be found at any supermarket. Most sodas and seltzers (most Coke products (a few flavors may not be), all Adirondack seltzers, all Poland Spring seltzers) are kosher. FYI most juice mixes are NOT kosher. The Sesame Street brand including Elmo, Big Bird, and Bert and Ernie, which is available at most Stop and Shop stores is kosher. Minute Maid and Tropicana Orange Juice are kosher. So are some other Minute Maid juice mixes. Many 100% pure Apple Juices are Kosher, for example Mott’s. |
